In the middle of my Goofy Challenge weekend, I received a Facebook message from a coworker. My company was in the process of putting together a corporate team with Team in Training for the San Diego Rock 'n' Roll Marathon. It sounded intriguing, but I wanted to find out more before I committed to anything. This past Saturday was the kickoff meeting for the Team in Training season. I have seen the purple shirts and heard the supportive shouts of "Go Team" in the Disney races that I've run in the past. But other than that I really didn't know much about it. And, I have to admit, the $2,900 minimum fund raising requirement was a little daunting. After attending the kickoff, however, I couldn't be more excited.
Team in Training and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society are on the front lines of the fight against cancer. Every four minutes, someone is diagnosed with some form of blood cancer and every ten minutes, someone loses their fight. Over 76% of the funds raised for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society through Team in Training go directly to support cancer research, patient support, and education. To date, more than $1.2 billion has been raised by Team in Training participants.I'm thrilled to be a part of this incredible organization and will truly be running for something greater than myself come June 3rd. Please consider contributing to this organization and together we can help find a cure for cancer one mile at a time. You can donate here.
